IWAN KURNIAWAN

Saxophone Teacher

Mr. Iwan Kurniawan was born in Surabaya, Indonesia in 1986. He was raised in a musical family with a father who is a professional musician. His father bought him a piano when he was 7 years old, and since then he started to learn classical to pop style piano. He started to learn how to play saxophone in the age of 18, with the guidance of his father and other well known woodwind and brass players in Surabaya.

In 2008, Mr. Iwan decided to move to Jakarta. With his big interest in Jazz and his eagerness to gain more knowledge, he continued his study with an Indonesian Jazz icon, Indra Lesmana. He also participated in masterclasses by international saxophonists, such as Martin Jacobsen (FRA), Kim Waters (USA), and many more.

His music career started in Surabaya as an established session player, then he reached out further to Jakarta, where he became the session player to some Indonesian artists, such as Vina Panduwinata, Utha Likumahuwa, Afgan, Richard Chriss, and many more.
